AVinci One with the finest units and audiophile crossover parts. Review from a customer in the US... I acquired this pair of Acoustic Reality AVinci One speakers based solely on the fact that their drivers were something you usually see in much more expensive speakers (we are talking about many thousands of dollars here). When I initially listened to them out of the box, I was very impressed with their bass extension and their driver integration, thought that their upper midrange was a little layed back, with the little woofers were having to work hard to produce really deep bass, sounding slightly mechanical, but very impressive none the less. I don't think I was prepared for the improvements that occurred to the AVinci's after the 400 hour mark though . Of all the speakers I've owned, only Magnepans have changed as much in sound from their initial listen to full break in. To say that I am now completely overwhelmed by this little speaker is putting it mild. The slight mechanical nature from the speaker's little woofers has completely disappeared, with bass just flowing from the speaker. They image as good as anything that has come my way, with a very layered soundstage, allowing the speakers to completely disappear. The treble performance from the speakers has reset my view of what a dome tweeter is capable of, with the highs being very smooooth indeed. I had never heard the Hiquphon tweeter before, but I have to agree with Peter, that it must be one of the best sounding dome tweeters out there. Back to the AVinci's bass performance: They have the lowest bass I've ever heard from a monitor speaker bar none! I'm sure that other speaker monitors which use the larger Scanspeak Revelator woofers must have even lower bass, but the Avinci's bass is just amazing for its size! If I had to find something to criticize about these speakers, I guess I would say that their sensitivity is on the low side, requiring a bit of power to really rock. But with my custom amps only having sixty watts per channel, they still have no problem getting these speakers loud enough to do the trick. The Ones just are less efficient than other speakers that I've owned. As an Electrical Engineer myself who has been deeply involved in high end audio for over twenty years, I still can't figure out how Acoustic Reality can bring this level of speaker to market for $1000. This speaker is my current my reference bang for the buck monitor. The AVinci One has exceeded all of my expectations, which were quite high. How do you find accuracy of the AVinci One? What about clarity and details? Accuracy and detail extraction are the strongest points of the Avinci One. They are truly a reference level product, that should be compared to the best monitors available, regardless of price (in my opinion). These speakers have allowed me to discover new details in many of my CD recordings, that I never knew existed when I've listen to them with other speakers. I have previously listened to these same recordings (extensively) on the following reference level speakers: Alon V, Legacy Whisper, Dunlavy Aletha, IVa & V, Proac 2.5, Magnepan MGIIIa, Spica TC-50, Spica Angeles and Theil 3.6. Like I said before, this speaker has exceeded my expectations of what a monitor is capable of doing. Feeback from a customer in Italy... I have compared the AVinci One with ProAc Response One. The AVinci One win in all aspects!!! These speakers are very little big jewels. The bass go better and better. The rest too. Are incredible. Almost disarming, awesome. :-) Feedback received a few days earlier from the same customer: This afternoon I have listen the One's for about one hours. I thought: 1) Where is the sub? I don't remember that I have one...2) Disarming...I am listening what I see or I am listening an invisible floor standing speakers? !!! :-) Their naturalness is unbelievable. The tweeter is great. The woofer also but I was prepared. There is not discontinuity between drivers, all is fluid. The bass frequencies go better minutes after minutes and so the high frequencies. The stage is incredible for dimension and neutrality. Feedback from a customer in Asia... I'm still breaking in my AVinci One but I am blown away by how much detail these speakers are passing through! And, by detail, I mean the nuances of the performance, not fatiguing treble. Just this morning, in spite of being half asleep, I heard details in several classic 80's songs that stopped me in my tracks wondering "where did that come from?" Other comments: Dynamics and treble extension are quite good, as is the bass. Midrange is smooth and voices sound very very natural. Treble is extended but not brittle or grainy (well, there's a bit but consider my cd player and amp). I've heard that it takes 500-700 hours to really break in these speakers. It took almost 200 hours (I'm guessing) to clear up the mud in the bass; initially dynamics and treble extension were also very closed-in and constrained. I've got the Avinci's breaking in with my old NAD receiver and CD player, set up on flimsy stands on one side of my bedroom. One speaker is firing straight ahead, the other is in a corner toed in at a 45-degree angle! So, if they sound this good in such horrible conditions with mid-fi (at best) equipment, imagine how they will sing when hooked up to quality components! More to follow... |
